Likely they were good friends or kinsmen.<br /><br />Joseph of Arimathea is actually Joseph of Hara-mathea which means priest of the line of Matthew. This was the line of Joseph of Nazareth so Joseph was a kinsman of our Lord. Both were descendants of the ruler-priest lines that the Bible traces from Genesis 4,5 and 11.
