Beheading of John the Baptist

The biblical account portrays the beheading of Saint John the Baptist by Herod Antipas. According to the Synoptic Gospels, Herod had imprisoned John because he reproved Herod for divorcing his wife (Phasaelis), and unlawfully taking his brother Herod Philip I's wife, Herodias. On Herod's birthday, Herodias' daughter (traditionally named Salome) danced before the king and his guests. Her dancing pleased Herod so much that in his drunkenness he promised to give her anything she desired, up to half of his kingdom. When the daughter asked her mother what she should request, she was told to ask for the head of John the Baptist on a platter. Although Herod was appalled by the request, he reluctantly agreed and had John executed in the prison.

Couple Ordered to Stop Holding Bible Study at Home Without Permit

Sounds like a back-door approach to curtail the practice of religion and violate the first amendment. If this is allowed to take place it could have an impact on home missions and churches.

I wonder if San Diego County is going to phase 2 of the Chinese Communist playbook and bulldoze the Pastor's home if he does not submit.

Couple Ordered to Stop Holding Bible Study at Home Without Permit

Pastor David Jones and his wife Mary have been told that they cannot invite friends to their San Diego, Calif. home for a bible study — unless they are willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars to San Diego County.

"On Good Friday we had an employee from San Diego County come to our house, and inform us that the bible study that we were having was a religious assembly, and in violation of the code in the county." David Jones told FOX News.

"We told them this is not really a religious assembly — this is just a bible study with friends. We have a meal, we pray, that was all," Jones said.

A few days later, the couple received a written warning that cited "unlawful use of land," ordering them to either "stop religious assembly or apply for a major use permit," the couple's attorney Dean Broyles told San Diego news station 10News.

But the major use permit could cost the Jones' thousands of dollars just to have a few friends over.

For David and Mary Jones, it's about more than a question of money.

"The government may not prohibit the free exercise of religion," Broyles told FOX News. "I believe that our Founding Fathers would roll over in their grave if they saw that here in the year 2009, a pastor and his wife are being told that they cannot hold a simple bible study in their own home."

"The implications are great because it’s not only us that’s involved," Mary Jones said. "There are thousands and thousands of bible studies that are held all across the country. What we’re interested in is setting a precedent here — before it goes any further — and that we have it settled for the future."

The couple is planning to dispute the county's order this week.

If San Diego County refuses to allow the pastor and his wife to continue gathering without acquiring a permit, they will consider a lawsuit in federal court.

Obama's Stimulus Bill a War on Prayer?

-- Fox News --

Democrats in Congress have declared war on prayer, say conservative groups who object to a provision in the stimulus bill that was passed by the House of Representatives last week.

The provision bans money designated for school renovation from being spent on facilities that allow "religious worship." It has ignited a fury among critics who say it violates the First Amendment and is an attempt to prevent religious practice in schools.

According to the bill, which the Democratic-controlled House passed despite unanimous Republican opposition, funds are prohibited from being used for the "modernization, renovation, or repair" of facilities that allow "sectarian instruction, religious worship or a school or department of divinity."

Critics say that could include public schools that permit religious groups to meet on campus. The House provided $20 billion for the infrastructure improvements, of which $6 billion would go to higher education facilities where the limitations would be applied.

"What the government is doing is discriminating against religious viewpoints," said Mathew Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, a Washington-based nonprofit organization that works to advance religious freedom.

"President Obama's version of faith-based initiatives is to remove the faith from initiative," said Staver, who believes Obama has "a completely different view on faith" from what he said during his presidential campaign.

"He is not the infallible messiah that some thought he would be," Staver said.

Civil liberty groups like the Americans United for Separation of Church and State vehemently defend the stimulus bill's provision, arguing that it in no way violates the Constitution.

"This provision upholds constitutional standards established by the U.S. Supreme Court and in no way affects student groups that meet on public school campuses," said the Barry W. Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

The American Civil Liberties Union also defends the constitutionality of the restriction, which they say has been the law since 1972.

"It's almost a restatement of what the Constitution requires so there's nothing novel in what the House did in its restriction," said Christopher Anders, senior legislative counsel to the ACLU. "For 37 years, the law of the land is that the government can't pay for buildings that are used for religious purposes."

Not so, says the Traditional Values Coalition, which issued a statement Wednesday charging that Obama is using his stimulus plan to restrict the exercise of religion in public facilities -- a provision it says violates the right to free speech.

"The economic crisis is being used as a pretext to curb religious liberty at institutions of higher learning," said Executive Director Andrea Lafferty.

"We are not asking that federal funding be used to construct a church, but if a campus ministry wants to hold a Bible study or Mass in the student activity building, we should be encouraging that -- not punishing a college for permitting it," she said.

According to some constitutional law experts, any complaint filed against the provision will gain little ground in court.

"Certainly the provision is treating the act of religious organizations differently from the activities of the school itself," Harvard University constitutional law professor Mark Tushnet told FOXNews.com.

"It's not frivolous to say there's a constitutional problem with excluding religious facilities from these grants, but I think the way of the law is in the other direction," he said.

Tushnet cited a 2004 Supreme Court case in which a Washington student lost a college scholarship awarded by the state after it was revealed that he planned to pursue a degree in pastoral ministries. Though the student argued that rescinding the money discriminated on the basis of religion, the court ruled in the state's favor -- declaring that the taxpayer-funded scholarship's restriction is constitutional.

The White House said Wednesday that it plans to keep in place the basic structure of the faith-based initiative office established by former President George W. Bush.

Administration officials said the office is a substantial programming and policy arm of the federal government, which allows federal agencies to connect with local neighborhood and faith-based groups to deliver social services.

Does the Obama Campaign Challenge the Uniqueness of Christ?

Maybe the title of this post falls in the realm of overstatement, but there may be a bit of truth to it where the left wing fringe is concerned.

There has been a disturbing trend that I have noticed in the presidential campaign for Sen. Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. (D-IL) and the factions that aligned themselves have adopted the same talking points that are well, pointless.

One of these talking points is so off-base that it really should have never seen the light-of-day.

At first, I thought to dismiss such non-sense, but now it seems to be a rallying cry for Sen. Obama's supporters as evidenced by posts like this in the Daily Kos and if you do a search on the above mentioned phrase, you will hear and see the reactionary attacks on Gov. Palin and the indignant defense of Community Organizers of both Sen. Obama and the "profession" of community organizers.

Those on the defensive want to show the world that community organizers in general and Sen. Obama in particular, are saintly, righteous people, doing good works for others and compare them to John Hancock, Gandhi, Cesar Chavez and in the most deplorable instance comparing Mr. Obama to our Lord Jesus Christ. Yet, I should not find this surprising because the left and the mythology of secular relevance had recast Jesus from the Word of GOD made flesh, to a really nice guy who liked to help people, to a Roman Era Che Guevara (who himself is a product of sanitized left-wing propaganda).

If you try hard enough, you could cast nearly any historical figure as a community organizer, for examples: Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao, the Kim's, Saddam, Mussolini, Genghis Khan, Attila the Hun and even Satan himself. But this is the style of the left and why it is so attractive to Hollywood, they cast people into roles and try to write the narrative as to make those roles good or bad, hero or villain as in casting Sara Palin as the (evil) Governor, like Pontious Pilate. The left equates one to one so if Pontious Pilate was a governor, than all governors are bad, so let us look at some governors and you tell me if they are all bad? Bill Clinton, FDR, Teddy Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Mario Cuomo, Jesse Ventura, etc.

So taking the left's logic of casting and equality and applying it to Sen. Obama we get this little gem of reasoning. Sen. Obama was a community organizer, a good speaker and a presence in a crowd as was Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ is the Messiah, therefore Obama is Messiah. Well, reason would dictate that this equation is rudimentary at best and blasphemous at least, and he says nothing and by his silence the myth grows and he makes himself a god in the pantheon of politics and never refutes this mantle of diety placed upon him. But this is the narrative of Obama that is being portrayed to the public and Sen. Obama cares not how it appears as long as it gets him votes and if it manages to draw criticism from a large enough number of people he will distance himself from the narrative and lay it on "overzealous" or "enthusiastic" campaigners or supporters.

Make no mistake, Mr. Obama will deny and redirect any criticism of himself or his campaign and has a vast army of Kamikaze campaigners that will take the fall for him if a underhanded campaign tactic hits a flat note with the public, he is greatly insulated and compartmentalized, but make no mistake, he is in control of the attack poodles. So in his vanity he has turned a cult of personality into a movement of Ego, a triumph of his will, the creation of brand Obama that will leave all of us to pay the price.

For Mr. Obama is also a product of the modern church and liberal theology that allows one to make himself equal to GOD and a partner in a relationship with GOD (so remember the equation above) and for the rest of us mortals let us remember;

"I am The Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before Me." (Exodus 20:2-3 KJV)

"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I The Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me; And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me, and keep My Commandments. (Exodus 20:4-6 KJV)

Jesus on Social Justice, Community Organizing and Revolution:

Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way. (St. Matthew 22:19-21 KJV)

thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. (St. Mark 12:30 KJV)

Beheading of John the Baptist

The biblical account portrays the beheading of Saint John the Baptist by Herod Antipas.[1] According to the Synoptic Gospels, Herod had imprisoned John because he reproved Herod for divorcing his wife (Phasaelis), and unlawfully taking his brother Herod Philip I's wife, Herodias.

Pope Demands Ban on Crucified Frog Sculpture

-- Thursday, August 28, 2008

-- Fox News --

A depiction of frogs in a modern art sculpture that would make Kermit blush has also been condemned by Pope Benedict XVI and labeled as blasphemous.

The 4-foot wooden artwork in question is a crucified green frog holding a beer mug in one hand and an egg in the other, Reuters reported.

The board of the Museion Museum in Bolzano, Italy, met Thursday to decide whether to side with the pope and other "frog" critics, or with those who say it should be recognized as a work of art. They decided to keep it.

Late German artist Martin Kippenberger’s “Zuerst die Fuesse," (Feet First), depicts the frog in a loin cloth, nailed to a cross through its hands, with its tongue hanging out of its mouth.

"Surely this is not a work of art but a blasphemy and a disgusting piece of trash that upsets many people," Franz Pahl, president of the regional government who opposed the sculpture, read from a letter from the Vatican to Reuters.

The Vatican letter said that the work "wounds the religious sentiments of so many people who see in the cross the symbol of God's love."

Pahl was so offended by “Feet First" that he went on a hunger strike to demand its removal and had to be taken to hospital this summer.

The sculpture does have its supporters as well.

"Art must always be free and the artist should not have any restrictions on freedom of expression," Reuters quoted Claudio Strinati, a superintendent for Rome's state museums.

Kippenberger's work has been shown at the Tate Modern and the Saatchi Gallery in London and at the Venice Biennale, and retrospectives are planned in Los Angeles and New York, Reuters reported.

-- Could you imagine if it had been a sculpture of the "prophet toadhammed", there would be protests, killings and mayhem in the streets. The gallery would have yanked it faster than a ham sandwich in a Turkish cafeteria and people would be denouncing the artist as insensitive. Sheeesh. -- KJC402

Is American Theology Watered Down?

The publication of a Pew Survey on American religion is being posted on many news sights and getting spun like cotton candy and if the statistics were true, than the Unitarian-Universalists should be the largest religious body in the U.S.

"America remains a nation of believers, but a new survey finds most Americans don't think their religion is the only way to eternal life, even if their faith tradition teaches otherwise."

St. John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

St. John 14:6 - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

"The findings, revealed Monday in a survey of more than 35,000 adults, can either be taken as a sign of growing religious tolerance or evidence that Americans dismiss or don't know fundamental teachings of their own faiths."

I think the reasoning for this result can be summed-up thus.

1) Ineffective or shoddy evangelism, does the minister believe or understand what he is preaching, does he know what is in the Gospels or is it a quick power-point presentation of the warm and fuzzy and politically correct portions of the teachings of our Lord?

2) The replacement of a theologically and dogmatically sound catechisms with the "meet-and-greet-supper-club-are you sure you want to be a Christian?" program or a catechism focused on social justice and environmentalism and not on salvation through Jesus Christ.

3) The lack of an instructional office and the recitation of the Decalogue or the Creeds unstained by a new translation that sneaks in post-modern theology.

IMHO, the only way to correct this slide into luke-warm belief is to deliver a message to believers and potential converts, that is rooted in Scripture and tradition and is delivered in a convicted and convincing manner.

Cardinal Kasper's Comments

There is a buzz in the Anglican blogesphere as to the remarks of Cardinal Kasper about Anglicanism, with people weighing in on "their" interpretation of what he "truly" meant when he made his comments. At first I was a little set-off by the comments, but now I feel there is more to this than meets the eye.

To understand the comments we must know a little more about the Cardinal. Walter Cardinal Kasper is considered a liberal in the Roman Communion and is also an advocate of ecumenism. He and Pope Benedict XVI have not always seen eye-to-eye on matters going back to his administration as Bishop of Rottenburg-Stuttgart when he allowed divorced and civilly remarried persons back to the Sacraments.

His work in ecumenism goes back to the mid-1990's, when he was appointed co-chair of the International Commission for Lutheran-Catholic Dialogue. In 1999, Kasper was appointed Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and elevated to Cardinal in 2001. Cardinal Kasper is a regular envoy of the Vatican to the Orthodox patriarchs and was the celebrant at the Eucharist (an ecumenical one at that) during the funeral of Brother Roger Schutz (a Swiss Protestant monastic).

Taking all of this into consideration, I do not believe that Cardinal Kasper was making a veiled threat to the Anglican Communion, as much as a plea prior to the Lambeth Conference. He doesn't want the entire body of followers of the Anglican tradition to go "Newman", but would rather have it remain a viable Christian body that will keep his Boss form severing ties to Canterbury and thereby making Cardinal Kasper's job more difficult. His warning to The Anglican Communion (and in an indirect way the liberal Protestant churches) that they must make a stand for Christian values and Apostolic validity or it will fragment and become a Balkanized body of pseudo-Catholics, Pentecostals and Unitarians, cut off from the rest of the Church and cast adrift with the Mormons, the Jehovah's Witness's and the Unitarians.

Wasn't This Done Before?

In his upcoming biography of Jesus, "Basic Instinct" director Paul Verhoeven will make the shocking claim that Christ probably was the son of Mary and a Roman soldier who raped her during the Jewish uprising in Galilee.......The Rest of the Story.

Didn't someone already do a movie like this????

Oh Yes...now I remember......

Maybe this guy should stick to making thriller/exploitation movies and leave this material to professional researchers. Another hack who thinks he can mould history to his perception.
