Let nothing you dismay: Sneaking in over the wall

George Conger [here] has this report on the latest shocking pronouncement of one of the dictators of relativism herself, the female Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church of the U.S.A., who, shall we say, is not exactly known for her rigid adherence (or adherence of any kind, perhaps) to Christian orthodoxy:
"Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori has denounced her opponents in South Carolina as terrorists and murderers, saying those who opposed her view of church order were “wolves” and false shepherds leading the flock astray.
The 26 Jan 2013 “outrageous” remarks have changed the game in the South Carolina diocesan fight, her critics charge.  What had been a dispute over property has become an ideological war with those who do not conform now being branded as evil.
Speaking to national church loyalists at a special convention held 26 Jan 2013 at Grace Church in Charleston, Bishop Jefferts Schori began her remarks with the story of a glider pilot who had entered restricted airspace in South Carolina and found himself harassed by local officials.
“I tell you that story because it’s indicative of attitudes we’ve seen here and in many other places. Somebody decides he knows the law, and oversteps whatever authority he may have to dictate the fate of others who may in fact be obeying the law, and often a law for which this local tyrant is not the judge,” she said.
“It’s not too far from that kind of attitude to citizens’ militias deciding to patrol their towns or the Mexican border for unwelcome visitors. It’s not terribly far from the state of mind evidenced in school shootings, or in those who want to arm school children, or the terrorism that takes oil workers hostage,” the presiding bishop said.
Bishop Jefferts Schori also denounced what she saw as the arbitrary and capricious usurpation of power by local church leaders stating: “Power assumed by one authority figure alone is often a recipe for abuse, tyranny, and corruption.  That’s why Jesus challenges us to think about how the shepherd acts.  The authentic ones don’t sneak over the wall in the dead of night.  They operate transparently, and they work cooperatively with the gate-keeper himself...”

From someone who, certainly in terms of the apostolic tradition, has herself 'snuck in' over the wall and, moreover, has been notable for her wolfish and unchristian love of predatory litigation, this is hypocrisy of the very worst kind.

Pray for her and TEC to be set right and healed.

A Church That Embraces a False Understanding of Human Sexuality Inevitably Embraces a False View of God

I wonder from which denomination this "benediction" came?

apostasy_sign2
When a church embraces a false view of human sexuality, this will and does, inevitably flow from, and leads back to, a false view of God. Witness the following “blessing” offered up by in a liberal protestant church body’s worship resources, and then ask yourself what the consequences are for the doctrine of the Holy Trinity.
BLESSING
God our Father bless you and shield you.
Christ our Mother shelter you and carry you.
God the Holy Spirit guide your journey
+ both now and forever.
Amen.
Yes, you read that right, “Christ, our Mother.” Folks, this is not simply a confusion of languages, this is an apostasy from orthodox, Christian Trinitarian theology and language.
As observed elsewhere about this blessing by Rev. Pastor Peter Speckhard, a LCMS pastor: “Aside from ludicrously and meaninglessly referring to Christ our Mother, a Trinitarian invocation or benediction does more than name the relationship between us and God, it speaks to the Triune nature of God. To refer to “God” as our Father and then go straight into calling Christ our Mother truly, thoroughly mangles the Trinitarian theology that is part and parcel of a Trinitarian benediction.” Precisely so!

Thanksgiving and Abraham Lincoln

A Proclamation.

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship; the axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consiousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom. No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the City of Washington, this Third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the Unites States the Eighty-eighth.

By the President: Abraham Lincoln

William H. Seward,
Secretary of State

This is a transcript of the proclamation that brought us the first official Thanksgiving holiday, from one of our greatest presidents, a man that historical revisionists are trying to cast in a new light.

What is of this trend to recast the greatest figures in history, those persons that have built our civilization, and to mold them to conform to and/or justify a fringe agenda?

My former fellow travelers (athiest/agnostics) have tried to hijack Lincoln as one of their own. Though never a member of any one denomination, Lincoln is far from being the atheist icon that historical revisionists are trying make him. Lincoln read and quoted from the bible extensively, he invoked Providence and called upon the Almighty for our salvation and he attended a Presbyterian Church on a regular basis.

In his younger days, Lincoln was witness to the partisanship of various denominations and seemed to have been put off by this. Lincoln may have been a Free Christian, believing in the common tenants in Christian faith, while avoiding the particularities of any single denomination or he may have been an unorthodox Christian that maintained his own view of Christianity.

The revisionists are using quotes, generally taken out-of-context, to brace their conclusion that he was an atheist or agnostic, without taking into consideration the volumes of his writings and speeches that showed his belief in God and an in-depth understanding of Judeo-Christian tradition and beliefs.

No person will ever know exactly what Lincoln believed, but to shove him into the atheist camp, when the preponderance of evidence leads to the opposite conclusion is intellectually dishonest.

Thanksgiving(s) have been, traditionally religious holidays to English speaking peoples, but as with all of our holidays it is being usurped by the new faiths of secularism and consumerism, by robbing thanksgiving of it's religious identity and casting it's founder in an non-religious light, we further undermine our history, tradition and values.

Is a Liberal Super Denomination Coming?

In the prayer for Church unity, we petition : "O gracious Father, we humbly beseech thee for thy holy Catholic church; that thou wouldst be pleased to fill it with all truth, in all peace. Where it is corrupt, purify it; where it is in error, direct it; where in anything it is amiss, reform it. Where it is right, establish it; where it is in want, provide for it; where it is divided, reunite it; for the sake of him who died and rose again, and ever liveth to make intercession for us, Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord. Amen." and many of us feel that the unity of the Church would be a great accomplishment, but this seems to allude us. The whys and how's of missing the mark as numerous and for the most part "straw splitting", but many cling to them and make them a condition of any such unity.

There may be an exception to some form of unity and many of you may not like to hear this, but here it comes - The liberal revisionists are better suited and capable of unity into a super denomination than any traditional/orthodox Christian adherents are. Now, many of you may have noticed that I speak very little of what happens in other denominations or communions or church bodies and with good reason, C.S. Lewis advised that we should be kind to those who have "chosen other doors" or "remain in the hall" as long as they "follow the rules common to the whole house" well, I feel that these liberal revisionists are exiting the house and heading for the tree lawn.

This Summer we have read, heard and seen the news of some denominations accepting heterodox practices and doctrines always justifying the changes using ominous words like "inclusive" or "justice". It is this switch in priorities that may give them the common ground and vision to unite, under a banner of social justice, forgetting that social justice has always been a part of Christianity, though subordinate to the Churches primary functions of preaching the Gospel of Christ and the administration of the Sacraments.

Imagine if you will that two or three of these bodies that have embraced heterodoxy, find that since they no longer have roots in Scripture or Creeds or even confessional documents, they can unite under the idolatry of Humanism or Secularism or "Justice" and drag a Cross, some clerical vestments and even a (sometimes defective) line of apostolic succession with them, it would have all of the trappings of a liturgical Christian communion without all that messy stuff like sin and repentance. Now add to that lowering attendance, emptying coffers and the cost of maintaining property and the prospects of merger become more enticing.

This could happen right here in the USA and in the near future, The Episcopal Church, The Evangelical Lutheran Church, The United Church of Christ, The United Methodist Church and the Presbyterian Church USA, most of which have some form of intercommunion, could find themselves aligned in a confederation. These denominations would share resources and clergy and may in time become one body with one polity. It is not likely that whole denominations may join this cluster, certainly many of the most liberal congregations or clergy would, which in turn could lead some denominations back to orthodoxy or cause them to fragment even more.

What if this super denomination where to grow and spread, even drawing the liberal fringe members of the Roman or Orthodox communions? This could cause further damage to the Body of Christ and usher in more heresies and further polarize it into a rival religion, drawing in the Unitarian-Universalists and the moral relevance crowd, further destroying any Christian identity that the member "Churches" had.

In a small twist this scenario could benefit many orthodox denominations or jurisdictions in that it may drive faithful people from the revisionist dominated bodies their way and bolster those Churches, but I am afraid that the trend to drift away from Christianity or I should say organized Christianity, is more likely the result. If orthodox Christians could drop their posturing and pretense and would work together to rescue those cast adrift or who do not want to be part of a political action committee disguised as a Church, than it is all to the good.

Let us pray that those who find themselves in such a predicament will not be lead further astray by false teachers (2 Peter 2:1) and they be no longer children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine made to deceive (Ephesians 4:14); and these faithful will find themselves in the arms of orthodox congregations ready continue in the faith which was once delivered unto the saints (Jude 1:3). Amen.

Lutheran Panel Supports Gay Unions and Clergy

By Manya A. Brachear and Margaret Ramirez - LA Times

Reporting from Chicago -- A task force of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America recommended Thursday that its leaders officially recognize same-sex unions and allow gays in committed relationships to serve as clergy.

At the same time, the task force asked members of the church to respect congregations and synods that disagree because they believe such actions would violate Scripture.

If approved, the measures would change church policy, which allows ordination of gay clergy but requires them to be celibate. In the report, the task force proposed a four-step process that outlines a possible path for change, starting with recognition of same-sex relationships.

"The task force agreed that this church cannot responsibly consider any changes to its policies unless this church is able and willing in some way to recognize lifelong, monogamous, same-gender relationships," the report said.

The recommendation will be voted on at the churchwide assembly in Minneapolis in August. Reaction to the recommendation was expected to range from elation to disapproval.

The report is yet another example of a U.S. Protestant denomination struggling to define the role of gays and lesbians in church life. Similar questions have been debated in the Episcopal and United Methodist churches in recent years.

The nearly 5-million-member Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, which is based in Chicago, is the nation's largest Lutheran denomination.

The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod are separate denominations that accept a more literal interpretation of the Bible and do not ordain gays.

The task force stopped short of recommending a liturgical rite for gay unions or using the word "marriage" to describe them. But the report said that "most of the task force members believe that ways can be found within local congregations to surround the commitments of such couples with prayer."

The Rev. Peter Strommen, the Minnesota pastor who served as chairman of the 15-member task force, said a context for public promises would help the church better define those relationships.

"Given we have no clarity or structure, we feel it's important for there to be an equivalent of public accountability," Strommen said.

In addition to the recommendations on ministry policies, the task force released a proposed social statement on human sexuality for the church.

Drawing from Martin Luther's spoken words that spawned the 16th century Protestant Reformation, the task force called on its members to respect each other's views about same-gender relationships as grounded in conscience.

The statement, titled “Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust,” recognizes marriage as a covenant between a man and a woman, but also acknowledges same-sex couples.

"Within the last decades, this church has begun to understand and experience in new ways the need of same-gender-oriented individuals to seek relationships of lifelong companionship and commitment," the statement says.

The debate on gay clergy in the church took on greater urgency in 2007, when the Rev. Bradley Schmeling, an Atlanta pastor, was removed from the clergy roster after he told his bishop that he was in a relationship with a man.

That August, the assembly urged its bishops to refrain from disciplining gay ministers who are in committed, same-sex relationships.

Archbishops Scold Biden, Pelosi

I see that Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Biden have changed their expertise, from Foreign Affairs to Church History and Reproductive Medicine.

Is American Theology Watered Down?

The publication of a Pew Survey on American religion is being posted on many news sights and getting spun like cotton candy and if the statistics were true, than the Unitarian-Universalists should be the largest religious body in the U.S.

"America remains a nation of believers, but a new survey finds most Americans don't think their religion is the only way to eternal life, even if their faith tradition teaches otherwise."

St. John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

St. John 14:6 - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

"The findings, revealed Monday in a survey of more than 35,000 adults, can either be taken as a sign of growing religious tolerance or evidence that Americans dismiss or don't know fundamental teachings of their own faiths."

I think the reasoning for this result can be summed-up thus.

1) Ineffective or shoddy evangelism, does the minister believe or understand what he is preaching, does he know what is in the Gospels or is it a quick power-point presentation of the warm and fuzzy and politically correct portions of the teachings of our Lord?

2) The replacement of a theologically and dogmatically sound catechisms with the "meet-and-greet-supper-club-are you sure you want to be a Christian?" program or a catechism focused on social justice and environmentalism and not on salvation through Jesus Christ.

3) The lack of an instructional office and the recitation of the Decalogue or the Creeds unstained by a new translation that sneaks in post-modern theology.

IMHO, the only way to correct this slide into luke-warm belief is to deliver a message to believers and potential converts, that is rooted in Scripture and tradition and is delivered in a convicted and convincing manner.

Wasn't This Done Before?

In his upcoming biography of Jesus, "Basic Instinct" director Paul Verhoeven will make the shocking claim that Christ probably was the son of Mary and a Roman soldier who raped her during the Jewish uprising in Galilee.......The Rest of the Story.

Didn't someone already do a movie like this????

Oh Yes...now I remember......

Maybe this guy should stick to making thriller/exploitation movies and leave this material to professional researchers. Another hack who thinks he can mould history to his perception.

+++Rowan Cantuar's Secret Plan to Avoid Church Gay Split

The Archbishop of Canterbury is backing secret plans to create a "parallel" Church for American conservatives to avert fresh splits over homosexuality.

Dr Rowan Williams has held confidential talks with senior American bishops and theologians who oppose the pro-gay policies of their liberal leaders.

A handful of hardline American dioceses are already defecting from the Episcopal Church, the American branch of Anglicanism, and transferring their loyalties to a conservative archbishop in South America.

Dr Williams is desperate to minimise further damage in the run up to the once-a-decade Lambeth Conference this summer which could be boycotted by more than a fifth of the world's bishops.

His recent comments backing aspects of sharia law have heightened tensions by further alienating Africans who are struggling with militant Islam in their dioceses.

According to insiders, Dr Williams has given his blessing to the plans to create an enclave for up to 20 conservative American bishops that would insulate them from their liberal colleagues.

The scheme would allow them to remain technically within the Episcopal Church but under the care of like-minded archbishops from abroad.

The Primate of the West Indies, Archbishop Drexel Gomez, a moderate conservative, has agreed to participate, and other primates could be recruited.

However, the initiative is likely to infuriate liberal leaders of the Episcopal Church, who will see it as an attempt to undermine their authority and interfere in their affairs.

The New Old Time Religion?

As a follow-up to an earlier post, here is more information on how ancient Christian traditions are making headway into modern Evangelical circles (h/t: The Way).

Could this be the dawning of a new Christian era? The post post-modern Church? And are Anglicans uniquely positioned to be the vanguard (minus the crowd at 815 and their ilk)?

Bishop John-David Schofield Suspended From TEC

The Episcopal Church banned a Bishop John-David Schofield from practicing his religious duties until March after he led his congregants to secede from the national church.

Bishop Schofield drew criticism from The Episcopal Church when he urged his conservative diocese to sever its ties to the church last month in a fight over the Bible and homosexuality.

Schofield cannot give sermons, do confirmations or perform any religious rites until TEC leaders meet to determine a final judgment by March 13.

What Think Ye of Christ? - Bishop J. C. Ryle

I always feel reading the tracts and sermons of J.C. Ryle, he was speaking to the people of his time and that his words have more meaning in our time. He could be classified as one of those people who were ahead of their time and have it not be a platitude.

Removing the factionalism from his writing (the old High vs Low Church debate), there was a depth of understanding that he held for the direction in which Anglicanism was headed. I will refrain from saying much more as this post is dedicated to a tract on Christmas and will keep the editorializing to a minimum, but find how much of what he says applies to some of the problems in the AC today, but here is an example:

The Prayer Book Society: News: The New Episcopal Religion on view in the candidates for Bishop of Chicago

This is a very telling article on the state of TEC's polity and it's religion of social justice.

For any one who doubts that the Diocese of Ohio is a hotbed for the new Epicopagan religion of inclusiveness, social and environmental justice, etc., etc., etc., just go to the website and see for yourself and especially read the sermons of Ms. Lind.

Update: I have been reading some of the profiles of the other nominees and see that there is a loaded deck of revisionist social liberal types.

Colorado Student Files Lawsuit Over Commencement Speech That Mentioned Jesus

This is another case of the stalwarts of the left - public school administrators - have fired another shot in their war on Christianity.

A school board in Colorado is withholding Erica Corder's High School diploma, unless and until she makes an apology for making a comment during her commencement speech, encouraging her audience to "get to know Jesus Christ".

I am sure that they will argue that one of the "Religion Clauses" that has been interpreted (distorted) over the years applies. That may be the case if this young lady was a school official or other government employee, but as a private citizen she has a right to freedom of speech, regardless of the venue, but with the customary exceptions (like yelling "fire" to induce panic, etc.)

They go on to claim that she did not make the remarks during her speech rehearsal, and maybe she did not intend to utter those words until the last minute or at all, but may at that moment on the stage she was filled with the Holy Ghost as Mark 13:11 (KJV)

So let us all support and wish the Corder's Godspeed in fighting what amounts to extortion.

A point to ponder, If Erica had been a Muslim and had made any religious remarks, would she have been given a pass?

Why using TEC Prayer Book of 1979 is spiritually dangerous! The Prayer Book Society: News

This article is right-on, I hope that those who read this and belong to one of the non-American Anglican Jurisdictions in the U.S. of A. can see that by keeping the 1979 "other" book and womens ordination they are just rewinding history.

Within 50 years they will be back to where they are today and will probably dilute/pollute the Global South in the process.

Don't get me wrong, there are many people in these groups with the right idea, but the wrong material and guidance. There is a wonderful Diocese of Bolivia parish in my area, but they are stuck to the 1979 "other book".

Muslim Episcopal Priestess

I really don't like to gang-up or make-fun-of the Episcopal Church (TEC), it is like picking-on someone with a disability or personality disorder.

There is so much buzz about this story on the INTERNET that I really don't have to write any background on it, so just follow the links or do a search on Ann Holmes Redding. Maybe she will change her name to Ann Holmes Redding Mohammad Ali?

Don't think that this is an isolated incident, I am sure that there are more TEC "Clergy" that are closet Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Wiccans & Pagans. Probably there are many of those who became Priests, so as to have a pension, benefits and the time for continuing education and could care less as to preaching the Gospel or the worship of the Triune God, or so to say they wanted a steady job.

Maybe TEC should just do what would be logical and right for them, renounce Anglican Christianity and merge with the Unitarian Universalists. TEC has more in common with the UUC than it does with any Christian organization, I just suspect that the 815 crew and their lackeys like the purple shirts, pointy hats and white collars (UUC doesn't have that) oh yeah and all the money left in trusts by people who belonged to the Protestant Episcopal Church of the USA.

Someone tell Barack Hussein Obama's handlers that he forgot his moderate disguise again.

How is it that it is always the right that "hijacks" the faith? Oh , yes I forgot, the left doesn't hijack, they subvert. Why do something overt and honest, when it can be done covertly and by deception?
